Creating illustrations can be an art and an enjoyable hobby. If this is your love, here is a training course to turn your personal interest into career opportunities, with a recognised qualification. The Professional Diploma in Creative Multimedia Illustration equips learners with the knowledge and techniques to master illustration across traditional and new media platforms, hence the readiness to communicate ideas and tell stories through visuals for yourself and your clients across businesses.

The programme is organised around nine modules (30 hours each) to cultivate creative illustration skills progressively:

  • Illustration Studies: beginning with the study of fundamental drawing and visualisation theories and techniques in a studio setting, you will learn to transform concepts into visual expressions; techniques attained will be applied on human figure drawing to deepen understanding of visualisation in narrative, editorial, documentary and commercial contexts; you will also learn to appreciate works by illustration masters from past to present to obtain insights and inspiration for developing personal illustration styles
  • New Media Illustration: from idea communication to storytelling, from 2D to 3D, you will commence with creating illustration, animation and vector art through mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, progressing to 3D digital art and animation with modelling techniques, and eventually develop a storyboard in motion graphics using After Effects; the learning will be rounded up with industry sharing to broaden understanding of professional animation production techniques and trends
  • Applied Illustration: a step-by-step guide to start up your own illustration business, from business model, funding and grants application, self-promotion, client communication to personal style development; you will also acquire skills of character design and sculpting, as well as visual narrative techniques with practices on book design and character imagery

Upon completion of the programme, learners should be able to emerge as illustrators capable of narrating ideas and stories across media and abreast of illustration trends, broadening career prospects in graphic design.
