Programme Details
Hong Kong’s aviation is renowned worldwide. With the commissioning of the Three-runway System (3RS) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on 28 November 2025, it sets a new milestone in Hong Kong’s aviation development. This Professional Diploma programme will not only help equip practitioners with recognized academic qualification but also enhance their practical skills and knowledge for further studies and career advancement.
Programme Structure
TRN4017X - Fundamentals of Air Cargo Operations and Systems (24 hours)
TRN4018X - Fundamentals of Aircraft and Systems (24 hours)
TRN4019X - Introduction to Aviation (30 hours)
TRN4020X - Airport and Airlines Operations (30 hours)
TRN4021X - Airport Planning and Management (30 hours)
TRN4022X - Aviation Mathematics (30 hours)
TRN4023X - Managing the Engineering Environment (30 hours)
TRN4024X - Human Factors in Aviation (30 hours)
TRN4025X - Aviation Safety and Security Systems (30 hours)
TRN4026X - Airline Operations (30 hours)
TRN4027X - Airport and Airline Industry Project (30 hours)
Assessment
Learners' performance in each module will be assessed by Continuous Assessment (CA) and/ or End-of-Module Assessment (EA). Assessments are conducted in English.
Schedule
- 2-3 nights per week, 18:45 – 21:45 or 19:00 - 22:00.
- Duration: 318 hrs. The normal duration for completion of the programme is around 15-18 months.

Further Education
This programme paves the way for graduates to pursue further studies for a higher qualification. Upon completion of this PD programme, graduates can apply for Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) offered by RMIT University in collaboration with the School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) under the Vocational Training Council (VTC).
Entry Requirements
1. Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent, with three years’ relevant work experience; or
2. Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E/Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent, with three years’ relevant work experience; or
3. Completion of a QF Level 3 programme or equivalent, with three year’s relevant work experience; or
4. Relevant RPL qualification(s) at QF Level 3 or above AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written.
Mature applicants, i.e. those aged 21 or above with at least three years’ relevant aviation work experience, may be admitted. Where appropriate, the applicant may be required to pass an entrance assessment, which can be in an oral and/or written form.
Financial Assistance Scheme
This is an approved course under Professional Training and Examination Refund Scheme (ProTERS) – Aviation of the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF). Eligible applicants will be refunded 80% of the fees after satisfactory completion of the approved course, subject to a funding cap of HK$30,000 per applicant.
