Objectives:
Targeted at adults who would like to acquire a systematic body of knowledge of insurance and

the related laws applicable to their positions of insurance/claims administrator or manager of a

maritime company, this programme has the following objectives:

1) Develop students’ understanding of how marine insurance functions in the execution of a

maritime company’s policy on insurance; and

2) Develop students’ capability of performing the jobs of purchasing marine insurance and

pursuing or handling marine insurance claims for a maritime company.


Features:
• After-hours Classes : so as to overcome working learners’ common time constraint.

• Modular Structure : 2 modules of 30 and 42 class contact hours respectively, to be taken

without pre-determined prioritization. Yet starting with the 30-hour

module will be beneficial to overall learning effectiveness.

• Professional Teaching : classes are taught by experienced professionals.

Mode of Study:
(1) Face-to-face tutorials (3 hours per weekly lesson, on weekday evenings or weekend afternoons)

- 30 hours for module “Essential Legal Knowledge for Marine Insurance Administrators”

- 42 hours for module “Marine Insurance and Claims for Ship Operators”

(2) End-of-module examination: 3 hours

Programme Assessment:
(1) One assignment 30 % of module mark

(2) One 3-hour final examination 70 % of module mark

• To be eligible to sit the final examination for a module, a student must attain a minimum attendance rate of 70% for the

tutorials, failing which he will have to retake the module.

• The module pass mark is 40%. A minimum score of 40% in both the assignment and the final examination are required in order

to pass a module.

• Reassessment may be allowed subject to prescribed restrictions.

• A student is required to successfully complete both modules within a maximum 3-year registration period for graduation and

for the award of Professional Certificate in Marine Insurance.

Programme Structure:
Students are required to complete both modules.

PSE4801 Essential Legal Knowledge for Marine Insurance Administrators#

PSE4802 Marine Insurance and Claims for Ship Operators#

#This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund. The mother course 
 (Professional Certificate in Marine Insurance) of this module is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 4).
 
The offering campus of this programme is IVE in collaboration with PEAK. The assessment result, transcript and certificate will be issued by IVE

Entry Requirements

Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English Language and Chinese Language with at least 3 years relevant full-time working experience
Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language and Chinese Language with relevant working experience
Equivalent

Entry Requirement:

  • Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language and Chinese Language with 3 or more years’work experience in insurance or shipping; OR
  • Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English Language# and Chinese Language with 3 or more years’work experience in insurance or shipping; OR
  • Equivalent.
  • Mature applicants i.e., those aged 24 or above, with 5 or more years in insurance or shipping working experience, may also be accepted subject to a satisfactory admission interview.

Applicants should show the Hong Kong Identity (HKID) Card / Passport / Travel Document / or valid study visa issued by the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) for enrollment.

Individual programmes may have specific admission requirements. Applicants should refer to the admission requirements of the individual programmes.

All places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Incomplete forms and forms received without payment will not be processed.

 

Deadline for Application

The deadline for application is 7 working days## prior to the class commencement date (The enrollment deadline might be subject to change depending on the enrollment status).

 

Notification of Class Commencement

Successful applicants will be notified of the class information by the contact method specified on the enrollment form at least 3 working days## before class commencement. PEAK will not be responsible for the loss of class notification sent by mail. Please contact us at 2836 1906 if you do not receive the notification before the class commencement.

 

Programme Fees / Receipt

For a programme commencing within 7 working days## at the time of enrollment, students are required to settle the programme fee by cash.

Programme fees paid are non-refundable, except for cases of unsuccessful applications and programme cancellation or rescheduling. Fees paid and places enrolled are also not transferable, and request for programme swapping will not be entertained.

Students will collect and sign to acknowledge collection of the receipts at the first lesson. Fees paid after the enrollment deadline may result in delay in receipt issuing. For those who have not collected the receipts during the first lesson, our staff will contact them for the receipt collection arrangement. If students choose to collect the receipt by mail, PEAK will not be responsible for any loss in mailing. Students will be required to pay an administrative charge of HK$100 for their requests for each additional receipt copy.
