This course aims to enhance learners' ability in Mathematics for further study. It also serves as a bridging course to supplement the entry requirement of Diploma in Plumbing Engineering.
Before admission to Diploma in Plumbing Engineering, applicant has to complete this course if he/she did not pass in Mathematics (HKDSE/HKCEE).
Course Outline
Basic Fundamentals
- Calculation of areas and volumes involving combination of plane figures and solids
Algebra and Trigonometry
- Solving hypotenuse by square root
- Solving practical problems in percentages, averages, ratios, direct and inverse proportions
- Angles in plumbing
Pipe Length Calculations
- Equal spacing between fittings
- Offset, diagonal, rise or run
- Offsets in parallel
Volume and Capacities
- Water measure, rectangular solids, cylinders, spheres, segments
- Ratio of pipe capacities, pipe sizing for plumbing works
Assessment
- Attendance requirement is 70%.
- Learners' performance is assessed by Continuous Assessment (CA) and End-of-Module Assessment (EA).
- To complete the course, learner is required to achieve 70% attendance requirement and get pass in CA and EA.
Medium of Instruction (MoI)
- The medium of instruction is Chinese, supplemented by English terminology.
- All teaching materials and assessments are in English.
Schedule
- 1 to 2 nights per week, 18:30 - 21:30.
- Duration: 21 hrs. The course shall normally be completed in around 2-3 months.
