This programme provides specific training for maritime practitioners to enhance their technical knowledge and upgrade their competencies so as to be more effective in carrying out their works.
This programme offers the following modules:
MEC4038Y - Ship Construction and Maintenance (20 hrs)
MEC4039Y - General Ship Knowledge and Port Operations (30 hrs)
MEC4040Y - Navigation, Passage Planning and Navigational Watch Keeping (40 hrs)
MEC4041Y - Ship Stability and Marine Cargoes Operations (30 hrs)
MEC4042Y - Ship Safety Management, Security and Emergency Responses (30 hrs)
MEC4043Y - Maritime Law and Insurance (40 hrs)
MEC4044Y - Ship Business and Maritime Affairs (50 hrs)
Requirement for Exemption
Applicants holding the IVE Diploma in Maritime Studies or Class 3 Deck Officer Certificate of Competence (CoC) issued by the Marine Department, HKSAR, or equivalent, and one year working experience can be granted exemption from Shipboard modules of the PD programme
Students' performance in each module is assessed by Continuous Assessment (CA) and End-of-Module Assessment (EA). Assessments are conducted in English.
- 1 to 2 nights per week, 19:00 - 21:30
- Duration: 240 hrs. The whole programme can be completed in 15 months to 18 months.

Two subjects in HKALE at Grade E or above, or equivalent qualifications (e.g. GCEAL), plus at least 1 year of working experience; or
At least 5 HKCEE subjects, including Chinese Language, Mathematics and English Language ("Syllabus B" before 2007), at level 2/ Grade E or above, plus at least 2 years of working experience; or
Holders of a VTC Higher Certificate/ Diploma/ Higher Diploma, or equivalent qualification, plus a t least 1 year of working experience.
